Two Dead Following Shooting at Central Michigan State Residence Hall

The suspected shooter is still at large, and is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Two people were fatally shot Friday morning in a fourth-floor room of a residence hall at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, according to police and the university. The two who were killed were not students, the university said.

Police said the suspect, 19-year-old James Eric Davis, Jr., opened fire inside Campbell Hall at about 8:30 a.m., describing the situation as a “family-type domestic issue.”

The suspected shooter is still at large, and is considered to be armed and dangerous. The entire CMU campus and most of Mount Pleasant are locked down as police from local, state and federal agencies search for Davis. Police said cameras in the common area and exits of the residence hall captured Davis leaving the building, headed north and running along train tracks.

Central Michigan University has about 25,000 students. Today is the last day before spring break. Many students had already left campus, but the university is asking anyone who is planning to come to campus today to pick up students to stay off campus until further notice.
