Welcome to Texas

Welcome to Texas

Specifically, welcome to Dallas. I’ve lived in Texas nearly half of my life, and I’ve always wanted to declare this welcome to visitors. Texas is a friendly place, unless there is an ice storm, and the roads are a mess. Don’t worry about that; our heat wave continues.

Friends and work associates ask me what it is like to live in Dallas. I’m not sure, I don’t live in Dallas and really can’t remember the last time I was in Dallas. It will be interesting to see what’s new downtown.

Wondering if there is a good place to grab a bite to eat downtown? You better believe it. The list is almost endless, and I’m going to offer some help in choosing a place to grab some grub after the show. Please consider reservations at some places.

  1. Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse, in the West End. Nothing short of spectacular. Try the Chuck Wagon Chili to start.
  2. Dakota’s Streakhouse, 600 N. Akard St. Start with the jumbo shrimp, and ask what the soup du jour is for that day. From the grill, good luck choosing. It’s all good. There is a dress code.
  3. Ellen’s is Southern comfort food in a swanky diner. 1790 N. Record St. in the West End. Made from scratch, simple yet extraordinary.
  4. Chet’s Dallas, located at 208 N. Market St., located on the Dallas College El Centro Campus. The fare: Irish American classics and seasonal cuisine. Start with the Irish Stew, but if you must pass order the Shepherd’s Pie, sans the sour cream.

This is a good Top Five list. Oh, number 5 are burgers I’m grilling out on the back patio. Yes, sir, (or ma’am) I have baked beans, corn on the cob, tater salad.

Welcome to GSX 2023.
