ISS Tech Secures Major Logistics Corridor in Southern Brazil

Arteris Litoral Sul leverages video intelligence to monitor dangerous cargo and improve incident response on the BR-101 highway.

Arteris Litoral Sul, the private concessionaire managing the high-traffic segment, sought to modernize infrastructure regarding the transport of hazardous materials. To meet regulatory requirements, the operator implemented automation technology to track dangerous cargo and accelerate response times for roadway incidents.

The deployment features specialized modules that use license plate recognition and placard decoding to identify vehicles carrying dangerous goods in real time. The system is designed to operate at high speeds and in adverse weather conditions, allowing the operator to track movement patterns and generate automated alerts.

Additionally, the project includes Automatic Incident Detection (AID) capabilities. These algorithms continuously analyze camera feeds to identify stopped vehicles, wrong-way drivers, debris, and traffic congestion without requiring continuous human monitoring.

"The implementation reflects a commitment to road safety and reducing environmental impact by using technology as a fundamental operational pillar," said Sérgio Viana, automation manager at Arteris. "The algorithms provide the operations team with a comprehensive view of highway traffic, allowing operators to focus on management and decision-making."

By automating detection processes, the system transmits location data and incident classifications to the Arteris Operational Control and Security Center. This data transfer is intended to reduce the time between the occurrence of an initial incident and the arrival of emergency teams.

"Early detection is critical in roadway environments, where incidents involving hazardous cargo can have severe consequences," said Aluisio Figueiredo, CEO of ISS.

The integration included engineering expertise from the project's inception to ensure the software aligned with the specific operational needs of the Southern Brazilian corridor.
