Inovonics Marks Four Decades of Wireless Security Development
Colorado tech firm celebrates 40 years as it expands wireless intrusion detection and cloud technologies.

Wireless hardware manufacturer Inovonics has reached its 40th year of operations while expanding its range of commercial security, senior living emergency calls and utility submetering products.
The company was founded in Boulder, Colorado, in 1986 by Steve Koonce and Don Hume to develop commercial wireless devices using frequency-hopping spread spectrum radio technology. Over the past four decades, the firm has focused on advancing 900 MHz wireless infrastructure for life safety, intrusion detection and environmental monitoring systems.
Among its early industry developments, the business launched its Wireless Guardian security panel in 1997 and its TapWatch utility submetering line in 1998. The company later established its EchoStream mesh network architecture in 2007, earning commercial Underwriters Laboratories listings for wireless security sensors and repeaters the following year.
In recent years, the firm shifted toward cloud-hosted systems and location-based safety hardware. Key releases include mobile emergency pendants for senior living facilities, fall-detection technology and area gateways that enable IP and system integration.
The manufacturer's current product strategy focuses on integrating its core 900 MHz wireless platform with artificial intelligence and cloud software for system integrators and technology partners. Recent product developments include updated intrusion detection systems and wearable duress card solutions.
