Communication Networks of Danbury, Connecticut, or ComNet, a manufacturer of fiber optic transmission and networking equipment, has been added to the product offering of Convergint Technologies.
GE announced recently that it has signed a definitive agreement with SAFRAN for SAFRAN to acquire 81 percent of GE Security’s Homeland Protection business for $580 million. Upon close, GE will own 19 percent and SAFRAN will have majority interest with 81 percent. The transaction has been approved by the Boards of both companies, and will be subject to customary regulatory approvals.
Regulatory compliance is one of the driving forces behind many security integration decisions, forcing companies to consider solutions otherwise deemed unnecessary. Often, this results in organizations choosing the most basic product that meets the requirements with the least impact on processes and technology infrastructure. However, some organizations are choosing to integrate security technology that does more than merely comply with regulations — leading to enhanced business processes, cost cutting and increased efficiency.

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies announced today that UC Irvine Campus Recreation recently installed a biometric Schlage HandKey reader to replace card access at its Center.
The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have a new biometric security system in place, but it may not be that effective since several thousand workers have not picked up their new ID cards.
