Denmark McDonald’s Use Integrated POS, IP Video System

For a group of McDonald’s in Denmark, a new integrated point of sale and IP video surveillance system is being served up right along fries and Big Macs.

The restaurants are using CheckView, an integrated POS and video system that uses XProtect software from Milestone Systems. The flexible and scalable solution, installed by MDIS and IT Gruppen, was developed for the retail sector to help manage shrinkage.

“Our old surveillance system no longer met our requirements and needs. One of the main reasons for choosing CheckView with the Milestone IP video platform is the ability to upgrade with the newest technology available,” said Casper Scheibye, supervisor of McDonald’s in the Copenhagen suburbs of Valby and Hvidovre. “The megapixel cameras improve the quality of the pictures, and we can clearly monitor the restaurant, as well as the drive-through areas. With the CheckPoint/XProtect integration, we can also manage shrinkage much more effectively.”

The previous surveillance system for the restaurants focused only on the typical security issues, like theft and vandalism, and didn’t tackle the huge problem of employee theft and shrinkage.

With an integrated electronic point of sale module in the CheckView system, every transaction from the cash register is recorded and combined with the correlated event video in the XProtect database by time, date and location. And since it is a network-based system, specific transactions can be searched remotely.

Along with better controlling inventory shrinkage, the system also can catch theft and administrative errors.

The megapixel digital video, which creates high-quality images for recording and printing, is provided by cameras from Axis, IQinVision and Vivotek.

“The system is incredibly easy to manage, and I am confident that we will receive a fast return on our investment,” Scheibye said. "Our investment has received a lot of attention from other company locations."
