Marine Corps Taps BearingPoint For Identity And Access Management Solution

BearingPoint Inc. recently announced that the United States Marine Corps Systems Command has awarded the firm a fixed price contract for an Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution.

The contract is valued at $6.3 million in its base year, and up to $15.6 million with four annual options.

The IAM project is part of the Marine Corps Enterprise Information Technology Services (MCEITS) program of record, and the IAM solution will serve as the single identity and access management system for all USMC systems and users.

Using a federated identity management approach, the IAM solution will create a single identity gateway to business and mission systems across the Marine Corps. It will include both classified and unclassified networks and will support more than 400,000 uniformed and civilian Marines.

Integrating with the Department of Defense’s Common Access Card, the IAM solution will use Sun’s Identity Manager to provide role-based access to a variety of business and mission systems to enable data sharing and collaboration in a trusted environment. The system will securely “know” who a user is based on their role, and provide access to required systems based on this information.

“BearingPoint has extensive experience in standing up and integrating identity management systems,” said Beth Smith, senior vice president of BearingPoint’s Navy sector. “The Marine Corps is a leader in leveraging technology in the DoD, and BearingPoint is proud to be the trusted teammate on this critical identity initiative. Once implemented, the Marine Corps Identity and Access Management system will provide important information security and sharing capabilities across the Corps.”
