SIA Presents Three Key Awards

The Security Industry Association honored Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr., D-N.J., Congresswoman Candice Miller, D-MI, and John Romanowich, President/CEO and founder of SightLogix, with industry awards.

Congressman Pallone was named SIA’s 2011 Legislator of the Year for sponsoring legislation that President Obama signed into law in January. H.R. 5470 provides a number of SIA’s members an important exemption from the “no-load” requirements for security and life safety products while retaining the Energy Independence and Security Act “active” mode efficiency standards for those devices. “That was a key fix for the security industry,” SIA Director of Government Relations Don Erickson says. “Congressman Pallone worked hard to get the legislation to the president’s desk.”

Congresswoman Candice Miller was presented with SIA’s Global Security Leadership Award for her efforts on border security. As Chair of the House Border and Maritime Security Subcommittee, Congresswoman Miller introduced legislation called the “Secure Borders Act,” which would require the Department of Homeland Security to develop a five year plan for securing U.S. borders. “This legislation has SIA-backed language in it that will ensure that DHS will place a high priority on physical security and camera technologies,” Erickson says.
The Statesman Award was presented to John Romanowich for his support of the Government Summit and for his chairmanship of the Chemical Security working group. “This award goes to the SIA member we feel has gone above and beyond in supporting government relations objectives,” Erickson says.

The Public Policy Dinner was held in conjunction with SIA’s June 21-22 Government Summit in Washington, D.C.
“Congressman Pallone, Congresswoman Miller and Mr. Romanowich are at the forefront of some of the security industry’s most pressing concerns right now,” Erickson adds. “We congratulate them on winning these deserved awards.”
