Vivint Promotes JT Hwang to Chief Information Officer

Vivint, a home automation company, has promoted JT Hwang to the position of chief information officer. Hwang will oversee all IT operations and software development for the company, and will be responsible for creating and implementing Vivint’s data reporting and technology strategy.

Hwang previously served as Vivint’s chief technology officer. During his time in that position, he built the infrastructure that supported the company’s impressive growth and service record. He was responsible for integrating all technology systems, including customer management and scheduling. Thanks to Hwang’s efforts, Vivint was awarded the 2010 Mobilizer award for Field Service Excellence.

“JT’s talents have enabled Vivint to provide top-notch customer service. His creation and integration of our customer management system allows for a rapid field response and the ability to maintain an impeccable history on our customer accounts,” said Alex Dunn, chief operation officer for Vivint. “Our internal and external processes integrate seamlessly due to JT’s innovations.”

One of JT’s most significant accomplishments was overseeing the creation of Vivint’s first monitoring station. This milestone completed the company’s transformation from a marketer of third-party security products to a full-service home automation company, providing all installation, service and monitoring services in-house.

Before coming to Vivint, Hwang worked at HP. He also served as the chief architect at Netezza, a global provider of data warehouse appliances.

Hwang holds both a bachelor’s in computer science and a master’s in computer science and electrical engineering from MIT.
