Scan Wallpaper to Download Ebooks

Scan Wallpaper to Download EbooksWith summer on the horizon, what better way to spend hot summer days than indulging in your favorite book or exploring a new found journey in a book that you’ve always wanted to read? Neighborhoods are embracing the concept of the Little Free Library, a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share their favorite reads. Imagine a box full of books for the taking; all you do is pick up a book and bring back another one to share with others. Sound like a reader’s paradise? I’d have to say “yes,” especially if you like to physically interact with the book while you read; however, for you e-readers out there, Vodafone Romania and furniture retailer MobExpert has got you covered.

Introducing Digital Library Wallpaper, a flat representation of books with a QR code on their spines in which buyers use an online tool to choose different designs and assign titles to a pre-selected list of free content. Simply put, whip out your smartphone, scan the QR code and download a book to your phone or tablet.

Pretty awesome concept, except there are a few drawbacks, including:

  • Once bought, you probably can’t add more books to the shelf since it’s a paper representation;
  • Ebooks are only licensed to Vodafone through September 2014; and
  • Each piece of book wallpaper costs $100.

This concept is an interesting way, though, to combine the physical and digital world to promote the use of mobile data. However, here’s where security comes into play. With the QR code and the scanning tool, will hackers find a way to use it to take pictures of other things inside homes or use it as an entryway to gain access to personal information from devices?
