Oncam Grandeye's Evolution Mini is the Toughest 360-degree Camera Available

Oncam Grandeye, announced that its newest Evolution Mini camera has received IK10+ Certification for its vandal-proof housing, which achieved the highest impact rating of any non-metallic 360-degree camera on the market today. This feat was obtained by utilizing an optical grade, polycarbonate bubble-dome cover that allows impact to be absorbed evenly across the housing.

IK is an international numeric classification that provides a way to specify the capacity of an enclosure to protect its electrical equipment from external impacts.

The rigorous testing process included dropping a .5kg (approximately 1.1 pound) metallic ball from increasing heights onto several critical areas of the camera—including a direct hit on the dome— then moving to a 5.89kg (roughly 12 pound) bullet-shaped weight drop on the dome from a height of 864mm (about 31 inches). The same camera was used during the entire certification process, which started from IK08 testing (5 joules/3.7 pounds) and went up through IK10+ (50 joules or 37 pounds of force).

The camera recorded live at all times and was still functioning at the end of the certification process.

“We are very proud of our Evolution Mini. Not only is it one of the world’s smallest 360-degree,
5-megapixel fisheye cameras, but it also has achieved the highest IK rating amongst the competition,” said Chris Brown, Oncam Grandeye’s global product manager.

The Evolution Mini Indoor Camera is an IP camera with a 5-megapixel sensor, a diameter of only 108mm (4 1/4 inches) and no moving parts. The diminutive unit is designed for quick and easy indoor installation in areas where a professional but light-weight indoor enclosure is required. The Evolution Mini indoor camera fully supports IEEE802.3af Class 2 power-over-Ethernet for installation convenience.

“This is a great product for residential, hospitality, retail and banking facilities, and for anywhere a small and discreet, but hugely robust, camera is required,” Brown added.

The Evolution Mini Camera provides total situational awareness across a 360-degree field of view, generating a number of video streams with resolutions of up to 30 frames per second, as well as configurable privacy zones and video motion detection within a user’s defined areas of interest.

The newly-certified housing is part of the extensive range of accessories for Evolution Mini.
