OnSSI's Ocularis 5 VMS Now Integrated with Spectra Logic's Verde NAS Storage Platform

OnSSI and Spectra Logic have formed a technology partnership designed to deliver the advanced performance and functionality of OnSSI’s Ocularis 5 Video Management System (VMS) combined with Spectra Logic’s Spectra Verde Network Attached Storage (NAS) platform. The combined solution delivers VMS and storage technology providing long term retention of video surveillance data at an affordable price point for end users.

“The integration of OnSSI’s recently released Ocularis 5 and Spectra Logic’s versatile Verde NAS storage platform provides a cost-effective solution for recording, retaining and retrieving vast amounts of video for fast and easy search and playback,” said Ken LaMarca, VP of Sales and Marketing, OnSSI. “This combination of best-in-breed technologies allows users to deploy a highly secure and reliable video storage solution with the highest levels of performance and value.”

“We are pleased with our technology partnership with OnSSI, combining their industry-leading Ocularis 5 VMS with our innovative Verde NAS storage platform,” said Ray Heineman, SVP business development, Spectra Logic. “Ocularis and Verde NAS combine to deliver a highly functional and seamless video management and storage appliance at an extremely attractive price point. In our integration demonstration, we showed that Verde can easily manage OnSSI environments with more than 500 1.2 megapixel cameras, with each running at 30 fps.”

Engineered for reliability and integrity, Verde NAS utilizes Spectra Logic’s unique implementation of ZFS software-based RAID combined with the latest disk technology to bring new life to long-term high-density bulk storage. Verde NAS is designed for ease of deployment, operation, management and expandability in a small footprint that is available in 2U and 4U models. Additionally, Verde NAS helps to ensure maximum data security by utilizing multiple layers of protection and redundancy.

Ocularis 5 is a full featured VMS with PSIM functionality including centralized management of physical security and content analytics to deliver a truly integrated platform with enhanced recording and camera management. It features automatic load balancing for managing recordings across system servers, which yields a significant increase in system performance, all while reducing storage costs. Ocularis 5 also allows for multiple recorders to be combined under the same Base (including legacy Ocularis 4.X recorders) with centralized user and event management.

Ocularis is offered in three models: Professional, designed for organizations operating multiple locations with small to mid-sized camera counts; Enterprise, built for a wide range of mid to large IT-centric organizations; and Ultimate, created for large organizations with extended command and control needs and recording server failover.

OnSSI and Spectra Logic are currently working on interoperability testing for Spectra Logic’s entire Verde product line.

  • The Future is Happening Outside the Cloud

For years, the cloud has captivated the physical security industry. And for good reason. Remote access, elastic scalability and simplified maintenance reshaped how we think about deploying and managing systems. But as the number of cameras grows and resolutions push from HD to 4K and beyond, the cloud’s limits are becoming unavoidable. Bandwidth bottlenecks. Latency lags. Rising storage costs. These are not abstract concerns. Read Now
