One person has died and three others were injured in an explosion that happened at a medical facility in Southern California on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say the deadly explosion is being investigated as a crime and the woman killed is believed to be the owner of the business.

Officials with the Orange County Sheriff's Department and the FBI released details of the investigation on Wednesday, explaining that they do not believe the explosion was an accident. They believe the medical building was targeted.

On Tuesday, officials told the Associated Press they were sifting through the remains of the blast site for parts of the device. On Wednesday, police said there were several pieces of evidence that were thought to be part of the explosive device and were sent to an FBI lab.

Two injured people are expected to survive after surgery and a third was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and released.

The explosive blow siding off the walls, exposing insulating and framing and shattering windows at the two-story building. Police believe the explosive was inside a package before it was detonated.

Officials do not believe that the explosive is part of a broader plot and there is no immediate connection to any extremist groups.
