Albuquerque Increasing Security at City Parks

The city council approved $114,000 for security cameras to be installed at the parks and an additional $100,000 for park security

The City of Albuquerque is boosting security measures at parks across the city to create a more clean and safe environment.

Last month, the city council approved $114,000 for security cameras to be installed at the parks and an additional $100,000 for park security. Officials say that the money will pay for park patrols, more lighting and even fencing depending on the park's needs.

Parks and Recreation officials say that each park has its own set of issues, but that the security measures would help to alleviate most, if not all of them. Officials are looking at tackling the security of each park from different angles.

"In some cases, it may be a physical improvement to the park, in other cases like Bel-Air we are looking at raising a wall to add some safety to the park. Other parks such as Lavaland, we're looking at a new fence there, but every park is different," Parks and Recreation Director David Simon said.

Parks and Recreation will have access to the money on July 1, when the new fiscal year begins, and plans to start fixing the problems immediately. Residents of Albuquerque will start seeing changes in just a few weeks.
