What to Watch at GSX 2019

Keynotes, booths and sessions that you don’t want to miss at GSX 2019 in Chicago from Sept. 8 to 12

GSX 2019 in Chicago is just around the corner, and it’s time to start planning for the vast amount of booths, sessions and keynotes that will be on display from Sept. 8 through Sept. 12. With over 300 sessions and 500-plus exhibitors on site, it’s crucial for attendees to prioritize their time, and Security Today is here to help.

Here are just some of the speakers, booths and educational sessions you will want to visit during the show. To see more updates from the conference, check out our Live From GSX 2019 page, designed to give you live views, news and product demonstrations from the show floor.

Exciting Keynotes

The speakers at this year’s GSX conference will excite anyone with a deep interest in international affairs or national security. Gen. John Kelly, the former White House Chief of Staff and Secretary of Homeland Secretary, is set to deliver a keynote address on Sept. 11 as part of the conference’s Military and Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. GSX will honor members of the military and law enforcement with a full complimentary day of education sessions and exhibit hall access as part of the celebration.

Kelly’s insights should prove fascinating given his role in shaping the Trump administration’s policies in his roles in the president’s cabinet and later as his chief of staff. The remarks will include Kelly’s thoughts on the “trends, risks and potential rewards” in some of the world’s most tumultuous countries, according to the GSX website. In addition, he will talk about the role that America plays, and should play, in promoting global security.

While Kelly’s appearance will certainly steal the show, conference-goers should also make an effort to listen to Ian Bremmer on Monday morning. As president of the Eurasia Group, a political risk research and consulting firm, and a longtime columnist for TIME magazine, Bremmer is known for his straightforward explanations of global economic and political trends. As globalization brings us all closer together regardless of distance, Bremmer’s remarks should be relevant to almost anyone in the security industry.

Booths To Visit: STANLEY Security, Salient Systems and ADT

The centerpiece of GSX is always the exhibit hall, featuring the latest products and releases from all sectors of the security industry. While it’s nearly impossible to visit every booth, Security Today can speak from experience that Salient Systems, ADT Commercial and STANLEY Security are always worth checking out, particularly at this year’s GSX 2019.

In booth 941, Salient Systems will demo its CompleteView 20/20 video management system, which earlier this month won Security Today’s independently judged New Product of the Year 2019 award. The product is a unified platform is a comprehensive management solution outfitted with a newly designed user interface, multi-point monitoring capabilities and seamless third-party integration for access control, license plate recognition and analytics. In addition to showcasing its software and hardware offerings, Salient will also raffle off a Yeti cooler and offer three free chapters of its eBook “Understanding Video Management Systems”’ during the conference.

At booth 360, ADT Commercial will showcase its unique combination of product expertise, cutting-edge technology and service footprint that are customized to fit each organization’s needs. The company’s expanded commercial business has assembled top system integration talent to provide a holistic approach to problems risk, resilience and security leaders face now and in the future. In addition, ADT will showcase some of its video surveillance, access control, intrusion and fire solutions. Since announcing its rebranding as ADT Commercial at ISC West 2019, the company has combined its business processes and IT systems to bring customers the best in technical expertise and customer service.

STANLEY Security plans to show off its vast array of products and security solutions, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses, in booth 903. The company’s services range from retail loss prevention, with its TRENDS business intelligence software, to its service assurance solution, IntelAssure, which assesses video streams in networks to detect and diagnose performance problems and provide businesses recommendations for fixing them. Beyond its current offerings, STANLEY will have some surprises up its sleeve that it will reveal before and during show week. Their booth will also feature a raffle, offering visitors a chance to win a DEWALT cooler, STANLEY FATMAX rolling tool case or a Craftsman Versatrack System Tower.

Sessions You Don’t Want to Miss

Outside of the exhibit hall, the conference offers an array of sessions meant to broaden (and deepen) attendees’ knowledge of security technology and the challenges facing the industry. Some of the ones that caught my eye include The Emerging Cannabis Industry: Pitfalls, Opportunities, and Pain Points, set for Tuesday at 11 a.m., and Secure and Safe Cities: Emerging Technologies and the Law, which is scheduled for Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. Both sessions take a look at the legal implications and security issues posed by two potential growth areas that many companies are already facing down on a daily basis.

For those invested in the future of cybersecurity, two experts are set to discuss the emerging risks of cyber breaches and planning for the consequences of leaks decades down the line. You’ll want to stick around until Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. for “Protecting Assets in the Age of Cybersecurity Leaks and Scandals: How to Plan When Risk is a Moving Target.”
