Axis Communications recently announced the results of the “Surveillance Survey Report” conducted by the Loss Prevention Research Council (LPRC) and sponsored by Axis, which states that 87 percent of retail companies who currently use analog technology for surveillance are now considering migration strategies toward network video.
Ballarat is one of Australia’s largest inland cities with more than 90,000 inhabitants. However, it is also a classic rural community, with historic architecture, iconic double-decker shop fronts and a thriving entertainment area. It was primarily the need to monitor the entertainment district late at night that prompted the local council to deploy an IndigoVision IP video surveillance system as part of its CitySafe initiative.
For local governments and its citizens the term “surveillance dilemma” may not be considerably well-defined or eminent. The concept, however, certainly is. It has always been implied. Ever since technology afforded government with the opportunity to remotely monitor their communities, a struggle to balance the inherent public safety benefits of security cameras without eroding privacy has persisted through all conversations.
