Homeland Security Group has launched its new PDVR-1000, a waterproof, body-worn DVR that strongly improves security for agents in the field, offers evidential quality recording of suspects and allows supervisors to coordinate tactical operations.
Verint Systems, a provider of analytic software-based solutions for workforce-enterprise optimization and security, recently announced that the city of Rio de Janeiro has expanded its deployment of the company’s Nextiva Critical Infrastructure solution to improve its city-wide surveillance system.
How’s this for a nightmare scenario? Stealthy bad hats sneak up on an IP video camera attached to a remote fence and unplug it from its Ethernet cable. In its place, they jack in a laptop computer and -- voila! -- they’re now inside that surveillance network where they can manipulate other cameras, reprogram door locks, fiddle with access credentials and perhaps wreak havoc all over the target organization’s intranet.

Conexant Systems Inc. and Stretch Inc. recently announced that the companies have developed a reference design for PC-based video surveillance products with DVR capabilities. Demonstrations highlighting the capabilities of the new reference design will be conducted at Stretch’s booth, No. 4136, and Conexant’s meeting room, No. 3502, at ISC West.
Many organizations now require that CCTV video images are recorded and archived continuously from all cameras for 90 days or more. In large systems, this can create a significant storage requirement. The issue is compounded by users wanting to store video at the highest quality and maximum frame rate, particularly in homeland security and law enforcement applications where CCTV footage is required for evidential purposes.
