Birmingham is the largest city in Alabama, spanning 151 square miles and boasting a downtown population of nearly 230,000. Like any major city, it has its share of crime and vandalism. To help combat this and provide a safe environment for residents and visitors, the city has installed 40 video surveillance cameras throughout the metropolitan area.

Genetec announced recently that Denver International Airport in Colorado has selected Omnicast, Genetec’s IP video surveillance solution, to secure their 53 square-mile facility. Ranked the 10th busiest airport in the world in 2008 for passenger traffic by Airport Council International, DIA officials were looking to upgrade an outdated analog system to a newer and more advanced network-based solution that they could evolve as newer technology emerged.
In 2007, more than 440,000 wild fires in the United States caused more than $1 billion in damage, including destruction of crops, timber and structures, according to estimates by the National Fire Protection Association. Improved fire detection is needed to reduce future fire-related losses.

The Glasgow Science Center, one of Scotland’s premier visitor attractions, has upgraded its aging analog/VCR CCTV system with IndigoVision’s complete end-to-end IP video solution. A leading grocery chain's corporate security and loss prevention departments had requested an overall upgrade to the region's facility surveillance systems. These facilities included grocery stores with gas stations and regional distribution centers. The departments were directed to integrate the most cost-effective progressive technology, increase the camera count and be able to easily relocate existing cameras.
When an emergency call is received at the communications center of the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region in Regina, Saskatchewan, it could be originating from across the hall or from hundreds of miles away.

With more than 53 million students going back to school, a national survey released recently shows that more than one out of 10 teachers believe their school is unprepared to protect kids. The results are part of the second annual ADT Back-to-School Survey conducted by Zogby International.
