Avigilon HD Surveillance Technology Protects Chicago’s United Building

Avigilon recently announced that Jones Lang LaSalle has deployed the Avigilon High Definition (HD) surveillance system at The United Building, 77 West Wacker Dr. in downtown Chicago to meet the building’s security requirements and maintain its corporate identity.

Jones Lang LaSalle selected the Avigilon HD surveillance solution because it delivers the surveillance coverage required with fewer cameras, preserves the building’s architectural beauty and integrity, and provides greater performance and lower installation costs.

“We wanted an advanced, high-definition surveillance solution that could deliver the image clarity we needed for optimal security with as few cameras as possible,” said Myrna Coronado, Jones Lang LaSalle vice president and general manager at The United Building.

To satisfy all its tenants in The United Building, an architecturally renowned facility, Jones Lang LaSalle required a surveillance solution that could deliver complete coverage but was less obtrusive than turn stiles and metal detectors.

With the assistance of D.M. Mattson, a local provider of surveillance system design, installation, and service, the management team at The United Building installed a Avigilon 16-megapixel camera in the main lobby, 17 Avigilon 5-megapixel cameras and 13 Avigilon 1-megapixel cameras on the mezzanine levels, parking garage, loading dock and the exterior for overall building security.

Security professionals manage the Avigilon HD Surveillance System using Avigilon Control Center network video management software with HD Stream Management. Two Avigilon HD NVRs store up to 30 days of continuous surveillance footage.

“When a building is named after a major American corporation like United Air Lines, the expectation for a comfortable, well-maintained facility that is safe and secure is high,” said Dave Tynan, vice president of global sales and marketing at Avigilon. “With the Avigilon HD Surveillance System, the Jones Lang LaSalle management team at The United Building has made a solid investment in an advanced surveillance solution that meets the security needs of its tenants for both today and tomorrow.”

By deploying the Avigilon HD Surveillance System instead of an analog-based system, the management team at The United Building was able to reduce the number of cameras in the lobby from five analog cameras to just one Avigilon 16-megapixel camera with zooming capabilities of up to 50 yards for complete coverage.

Leveraging Avigilon’s HD video search functionality, security officers at The United Building can make positive identifications within minutes instead of days. Operational in record time and user-friendly, the Avigilon HD Surveillance System has also freed up the security director to spend more time providing support to his team, instead of sifting through hours of unreliable footage. Deployment costs were 12 percent lower than an analog-based system, which would have cost more and taken longer to install from an electrical standpoint.
