ICC's Cabling System Helps Protect Health and Safety Compliance Data

Supporting telecommunication and information services within commercial buildings are crucial to today’s businesses. A prominent environmental health and safety company in Carlsbad, Calif. has changed locations to a new large commercial building, taking the top floor in a two-story, 75,000 square foot building. It was recently designed and installed using ICC’s high performance structured cabling system.

The end-user knew the importance of having a reliable network infrastructure to protect large amounts of health and safety compliance related data and support their business operations, so they chose River Fire & Security, an ICC Certified Elite Installer and a licensed fire and security contractor that has more than 21 years of professional experience. The company has done installations in hospitals, schools, high-rise buildings, hotels and other commercial facilities. The new project required an end-to-end Cat-6 data cabling system to support multi-user computers and an Avaya telephone system.

ICC’s Cat-6 modular connectors, patch panels and premise cables are specifically tuned together for best possible permanent link performance and exceed TIA-568-C.2 standard when installed end-to-end. Three distribution racks mounted with ICC’s newly designed Cat-6 patch panels were installed in the Equipment Room (ER). The new patch panels have standard 110 IDC pitch allowing the use of industry standard four-pair punch down tool eliminating the need to carry another single purpose tool. The patch panels also have clean front face with labeling area for easy identification and molded rear IDC housing to protect printed circuit boards. One hundred thousand feet of ICC Cat-6 premise cables were pulled and routed from the ER and dropped to all Work Areas (WA).

ICC’s 100-pair 110 wiring blocks were also installed for voice distribution. Cubicles, conference rooms, reception rooms, offices and the main lobby were stationed with outlets configured with ICC workstation products; i.e. one TIA standard size furniture faceplate with four ports for proper hole coverage and two Cat-6 modular connectors, one for data and one for voice, allowing access to the network and IP telephone system from any location. The conference rooms are equipped with projection equipment, so presentations have a visual and audible presence. Flat screen televisions were mounted to the ceiling in some work areas. River Fire installed outlets configured with VGA inserts and 3.5-millimeter stereo speaker connectors for high quality video and audio output.
