Alpine School District Combats Bullying with Surveillance Cameras

American Fork, Utah is home to the largest school district in the state with Alpine School District transporting approximately 21,000 students over 19,000 miles per day by bus. Due to the transportation of this precious cargo, the school district is enhancing its security on their buses to further protect students from bullying.

So far, Alpine School District has invested approximately $100,000 to put surveillance cameras on 48 buses with a plan to add cameras to approximately 40 to 50 buses per year until they’re all equipped with “mechanical eyes.”

District officials believe that these cameras will help put an end to bullying, mainly because if students know they’re being watched, they are less likely to do anything that is harmful.
