Muslim Boy Builds Clock, Gets Mistaken for Building Bomb

Ahmed Mohamed was detained after his teacher notified authorities

Police detained 14-year-old Ahmed Mohammed after a teacher alerted authorities of a homemade clock he brought to class which was mistaken for a bomb.

The boy was suspended for three days from MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas after taking the clock to class on Monday.

According to a report, Ahmed showed the clock to his engineering teacher after the clock beeped during class. The clock was in his backpack.

Police are determining whether to file a charge of making a hoax bomb.

"He just wants to invent good things for mankind," Ahmed's father, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, told the newspaper. "But because his name is Mohamed and because of Sept. 11, I think my son got mistreated."
