Widespread Glitches Lead to the Replacement of 173 Cameras at Montreal Hospital

The Montreal General Hospital is taking steps to replace all of its 173 surveillance cameras in the upcoming months due to widespread glitches with the monitoring system that have lasted for years.

The Montreal General Hospital is taking steps to replace all of its 173 surveillance cameras in the upcoming months due to widespread glitches with the monitoring system that have lasted for years.

Officials at the hospital have replaced broken DVRs and have put plans in motion to replace all cameras after numerous problems with the system, from missing camera feeds to murky images on the monitors.

While the equipment underwent maintenance every year, the team realized it was needing more and more work throughout the year. That's when they decided to just replace all of the cameras.

The upgrades are expected to be complete by mid-2018.

The move comes after several incidents at the hospitals including a patient strangling a nurse in the psychiatric ward. Budget cuts meant there was not a security officer on duty and a lack of upgraded cameras and a live feed meant no one saw the incident as it played out.
