A New York-based manager for Allied Universal has received the Patriot Award from the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
Michael Matz, who manages the company's Long Island branch, was honored for supporting employees who serve in the military reserves. The recognition followed a nomination by Thomas Mahoney, a client portfolio manager at the company who was deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border.
While Mahoney was away, Matz maintained regular communication with Mahoney’s family to ensure they had necessary assistance.
Mahoney has served in the National Guard and Reserve for 24 years. He currently serves as a machinery technician chief at Base Cape Cod and has completed 10 deployments throughout his military career, including operations in Kuwait and disaster relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina and the Haiti earthquake.
Joseph Kruk, a retired U.S. Air Force chief master sergeant and volunteer for the New York branch of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, presented the award.
