Islamic Organizations Launch Regional Active Shooter Training Program

A national security partnership begins regional safety seminars to help mosques and faith-based institutions prepare for active shooter threats.

Two prominent American Muslim advocacy organizations have held the first in a series of regional safety and active shooter training sessions for faith-based institutions.

The initial seminar, held at the Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center, provided religious leaders and community members with guidance on identifying, preventing and mitigating security threats, including active shooter scenarios.

The training marks the operational rollout of a national safety initiative between the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the North American Islamic Trust. The partnership focuses on providing safety protocols, emergency response instruction and security guidance to mosques, Islamic private schools and associated religious centers across the country.

As part of the initiative, the North American Islamic Trust established an endowment fund designed to finance ongoing educational programs, provide physical security equipment and offer support services to institutions facing potential targeted violence.

Community leaders are being urged to implement standardized facility safety protocols, emergency management practices and threat-mitigation resources to enhance the physical security of house-of-worship properties.
