Serving 37,000 students in nearly 65 facilities, the Buffalo School District is regarded as a premiere urban school system in New York State. Driven by the belief that all of its schools should be safe, equitable and flexible, the district embarked on a $1.4 billion, district-wide project to modernize its facilities and equipment. The project included a multi-phase performance of $20 million over 20 years for the district.

Raul Quintanilla Sr. Middle School, in the Dallas Independent School District, has been selected as the winner of ASIS International’s School Security Funding Competition. As the winner, ASIS International, the largest organization for security management professionals worldwide, will award the school $20,000 for security improvements.

Houston-based Video Insight and its integration partner Titus Systems of Round Rock, Texas have been selected to provide a comprehensive IP video surveillance solution at Pflugerville ISD in Texas.

The University of Missouri’s Residential Life Buildings complex has a unique combination of features for a campus security system: state-of-the-art technology, user-friendliness and the cost-cutting ability to be installed and maintained in-house.
Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, is now using thermal security cameras to look after its newly renovated football field. The 28-year-old sod was removed, a new drainage system was installed and new grass was laid in early 2009. The renovation took approximately five months to complete and cost more than $1 million. University administrators and campus police turned to thermal security cameras to safeguard this significant investment in their state-of-the-art facility.
Vacaville, Calif., has a population of approximately 96,000 and is located in northern Solano County, midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. Because a number of school buildings required modernization, the district was able to secure a $100 million bond issue. A growing awareness of security concerns, highlighted by ongoing incidents in the news, caused officials to include improved building security as part of the plan.

Tragic gang-related events in Chicago and other American cities over the past few months have only focused more public attention on the need to make our nation's schools safe. No child should ever have to fear going to classes because of bullies, weapon-carrying gang members, drug dealers or other criminals from the surrounding community.
