For banks to be successful, they must be secure -- and their customers and partners must have confidence in their security. Banks face real and serious threats, especially from theft. Employee theft is a serious problem. In the United States alone, losses from employee theft total $1 billion annually, which exceeds any amount stolen by common bank robbers.

ADT Security has won the contract to provide the access control and video surveillance security systems to the new terminal 3 in Indira Gandhi International Airport, slated to open in March 2010.
Since the Hojstrup Housing Association in the Danish city of Vollsmose installed Milestone video surveillance in the spring of 2008, the costs of vandalism have fallen 36 percent. It has created better security for the residents and more money to make improvements for youth activities.
When acts of violence occur at schools or on college campuses, or threats of terrorism force the emptying of the local shopping mall or a downtown office building, everyone goes on alert. The idea that significant security threats can come as close to home as school or work raises the question: What can be done to protect these areas and safeguard people?

IndigoVision’s complete IP security system is providing an advanced wireless surveillance solution for San Borja, Peru, which was deployed as part of the recent APEC summit. San Borja is primarily a middle-class district of the country’s capital, Lima, covering an area of 4 square miles and with a population of more than 100,000. The system was installed in advance of the annual meeting of the 21 members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), which met in Lima in November.

Security directors face large problems in large facilities. Officials at airports, seaports, industrial facilities and other large installations deal with a unique set of security problems. They also have a unique set of limitations. They must protect against a variety of security threats, many of which are unknown, and they must address these issues with limited manpower. The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has enhanced security in three of its largest parking lots with the addition of video surveillance systems from ADT Security Services. The installation includes cameras, transmitted via a wireless mesh system, which monitor a 600-space remote parking lot about a quarter-mile from the university’s main campus.

The city of Burbank, Ill., which neighbors Chicago and has a population of more than 28,000, has installed a new video surveillance system using 22 Sony SNC-RX Series IP network security cameras to aid the police department in preventing and solving crimes.
Metrorail, better known as Metro Washington, D.C. has installed 20 exterior surveillance cameras at 12 stations in the District of Columbia and Fairfax County, Va. Sounds like a pretty good idea, and I suppose riders of the public transit system can feel a bit safer. After all, cameras help deter and prevent crime.

Pivot3 Inc. recently announced that the Placer County Sheriff’s department in California is using the Pivot3 storage platform to support its mobile in-car video surveillance infrastructure. The decision to choose the Pivot3 open-system platform was based on three factors: scalability, ease-of-use and total cost of ownership.
