ASIS Pre-Show Selection Guide

Editor's Note for ASIS Pre-Show Selection Guide

Tradeshow Magic

IT'S that time of year again. Next month, ASIS is in town, if you live in San Diego. And if you don't live there, that's where you should be headed. The San Diego County Convention Center will be filled to the brim with the newest security products and top-notch security professionals teaching and lecturing.

ASIS officials have a knack for quality, and this year's event, the 52nd-annual will offer powerful ideas, innovation and security inspiration. There should be as many as 20,000 security professionals at the event, billing it as the world's largest and most comprehensive educational and networking event dedicated to security.

When ASIS throws a party, it's done right. Several months ago, in the resort city of Nice, France, ASIS held an international gala where a record level of attendance came from 47 countries. Thirty-two high-level educational sessions ranged from supply chain to corporate security, as well as homeland security and risk management.

That party also included a social highlight event: the President's Reception at the Salle Empire of the Hotel de Paris in Monaco. The magnificent venue on the world-famous Place du Casino was a fitting location for delegates to enjoy their last evening on the Côte d'Azur.

San Diego isn't the French Riviera, but it's close enough. The president's reception will not be in Monaco, but rather aboard the football field-size decks of the mighty Midway Aircraft Carrier on Monday. That's not all. The ASIS Foundation will host a cigar lounge aboard the Midway. There's also a golf classic and a fishing tournament, plus a first-time seminar attendee/new member reception and a get-acquainted mixer.

Monday's opening ceremony should be an eye-popping session. Networking luncheons are planned for each day from noon to 1:30 p.m. A ticketed event on Wednesday evening, the ASIS Foundation Dinner will be a first-class event for an evening of dining, dancing and musical entertainment. The closing luncheon will feature humorist Bob Newhart.

What a grand finale. Hope to see you in San Diego.
