Allin Interactive Integrating Smith Micro's Mobile Video Technology

Allin Interactive is integrating Smith Micro’s mobile video technology, VIDIO™, into the Allin DigiMix™ interactive platform. After a successful launch of VIDIO as part of Allin’s platform in the cruise ship industry in late 2011, Allin is bringing Smith Micro’s VIDIO product “shoreside” to serve the needs of the hospitality industry.

As an integral element of Allin’s DigiMix platform, Smith Micro’s VIDIO solution simplifies the process of delivering mobile video through the use of an integrated platform for dynamic transcoding and adaptive streaming over wireless networks. The result is that Allin DigiHD™ ITV and DigiMobile™ users enjoy a high quality mobile video experience from any video-capable ITV, smartphone, or tablet device.

“The cruise line and hospitality markets are rapidly changing and our customers require guest-facing platforms that offer a high-quality mobile video viewing experience, no matter what device guests are using to access content,” said John Troutwine, Senior Vice-President, Business Development at Allin Interactive. “Smith Micro Software achieves our primary video objective, which is to support all IPTV and mobile devices in a single solution, without the need to ingest multiple formats of any particular video. By adding VIDIO to our DigiMix™ platform, we are now able to offer our customers and their guests advanced technology while creating the most efficient back-office environment for staff.”

“We are excited to help Allin provide their clients with high quality, on-demand television content while simultaneously streaming mobile video to smartphones and tablets via Wi-Fi,” said Jim Mains, Senior Vice President of Global Products and Programs, Smith Micro Software. “Recent consumer survey results demonstrate that mobile access to video entertainment is a natural extension of the interactive experience that guests desire while traveling for business or pleasure, and we are pleased to announce that this experience is now available for the hospitality industry.”

VIDIO is a comprehensive delivery platform for broadcasting both live and on-demand content to the web or any web-enabled device, as well as set-top boxes. Rights-free content can be streamed to more than 15,000 device models with no client software required. For rights-managed content, VIDIO offers integrated Digital Rights Management capabilities. VIDIO is a component of Smith Micro’s Mobile Experience platform that helps Mobile Operators, Device Manufacturers and Enterprises simplify and enhance the mobile experience while optimizing network and device resources.

  • The Evolution of IP Camera Intelligence

As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
