The top executives, installation professionals, central station operators and sales and marketing personnel from across the security industry are slated to present in the Electronic Security Expo (ESX) Education Program. The program runs from June 18-20 at Nashville’s new Music City Center and features nearly 60 seminars across nine different tracks.

"ESX has an education program that attendees can’t find at other shows,” said Bob Bonifas, president, Alarm Detection Systems, Inc. “This show has the best speakers in the industry."

The ESX Education Program, highly-regarded throughout the industry, has received praise for the expertise shared by various integration and monitoring professionals. This program moves beyond the theoretical and provides real-world advice from professionals who have exceled in particular areas.

Speakers participating in the 2013 program include (but are certainly not limited to):

  • Jim Boots, vice president residential sales and marketing, ASG Security;
  • Dan Budinoff, president, Security Specialists;
  • John Cerasuolo, chief executive officer, ADS Security;
  • Patrick Egan, president, Select Security;
  • Mary Jensby, director, RFI Security and Communications;
  • Christine Mudrak, central station manager, ADS Security;
  • Norm Nelson, director, central station, Vivint;
  • Donna Speranza, director of operations, Doyle Security; and
  • Jay Stuck, executive vice president, SecureWatch24.

“We have an amazing lineup of experts participating in the ESX Education Program this year,” said Don Childers, director of technical training for Alarm South and 2013 ESX Education Chair. “These professionals have built, operated, and grown every aspect of security businesses and will share that expertise with attendees.”

Each year, staff and volunteer leaders from the associations that own ESX — the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) International and the Electronic Security Association (ESA) — meet to discuss the issues affecting their businesses and the industry in order to develop content for the education program. Potential speakers must submit their thoughts and credentials on seminar topics, including their own ideas, which are vetted by the ESX Education Committee to ensure they give attendees actionable, take-home information they can use in their businesses.

New to the education program in 2013 are the super sessions. These two-hour sessions allow speakers and attendees the time to interact and cover topics in detail, meaning more time for interaction and best practice sharing.

The two super sessions scheduled for the 2013 program include: “Continuous Improvements in Operations — Lessons Learned from Logistics Efficiency Leaders” and “Build Your Customer Experience Workplan.

“I’m really excited for the super session, because I can get past the basics,” said Kristen Simmons, partner at Lightswitch and a super session presenter. “The goal of the super session is to turn it into a work session, so that the latter half is all about bringing home ideas that are right for you and your business. We’ll go through different exercises, and you’ll have your choice of things that you want to prioritize.”

    In the world of IT, insider threats are on a steep upward trajectory. The cost of these threats - including negligent and malicious employees that may steal authorized users’ credentials, rose from $8.3 million in 2018 to $16.2 million in 2023. Insider threats towards physical infrastructures often bleed into the realm of cybersecurity; for instance, consider an unauthorized user breaching a physical data center and plugging in a laptop to download and steal sensitive digital information. • Enhanced Situation Awareness

    Did someone break into the building? Maybe it is just an employee pulling an all-nighter. Or is it an actual perpetrator? Audio analytics, available in many AI-enabled cameras, can add context to what operators see on the screen, helping them validate assumptions. If a glass-break detection alert is received moments before seeing a person on camera, the added situational awareness makes the event more actionable. Read Now

  • Transformative Advances

    Over the past decade, machine learning has enabled transformative advances in physical security technology. We have seen some amazing progress in using machine learning algorithms to train computers to assess and improve computational processes. Although such tools are helpful for security and operations, machines are still far from being capable of thinking or acting like humans. They do, however, offer unique opportunities for teams to enhance security and productivity. Read Now
