Las Vegas Hotels Beef Up Security One Year After Mass Shooting

It has been over a year since the mass shooting on a Las Vegas music festival. Here's what some companies are doing to step up security.

Las Vegas hotels and casinos are always evolving and thinking on how they secure their facilities, especially since the October 1, 2017 mass shooting on a music festival that killed 59 people and injured more than 500 more.

Caesars Entertainment has recently announced its plans to add armed security guards to its properties, while the Venetian has decided to deploy more K-9 units to its patrol. The Las Vegas strip itself has seen plenty of changes, including the massive bollard project aimed to keep pedestrians safe, which will enter its final phase at the beginning of next year.

In a statement to a local news station, Caesars Entertainment says, in part "these terms provide valuable additional security capabilities, provide strategic and more visible security presence and a rapid armed response if necessary."

Las Vegas Sands Corporation is beefing up the K-9 units, explaining that the main goal is to act as a visual deterrent and to detect explosives.
