When acts of violence occur at schools or on college campuses, or threats of terrorism force the emptying of the local shopping mall or a downtown office building, everyone goes on alert. The idea that significant security threats can come as close to home as school or work raises the question: What can be done to protect these areas and safeguard people?

IndigoVision’s complete IP security system is providing an advanced wireless surveillance solution for San Borja, Peru, which was deployed as part of the recent APEC summit. San Borja is primarily a middle-class district of the country’s capital, Lima, covering an area of 4 square miles and with a population of more than 100,000. The system was installed in advance of the annual meeting of the 21 members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), which met in Lima in November.
AlliedBarton Security Services began its partnership with Virtua Mt. Holly Hospital in New Jersey 16 years ago and has been providing access control and mobile and walking patrols, monitoring security cameras and teaching security-related classes ever since.

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies today announced that San Diego State University’s (SDSU) Associated Students has just celebrated eleven years (since 1998) of using 12 of the company’s HandKey readers to provide easy access into the six entrances at the Aztec Recreation Center, the Aztec Center bowling and games facility, the racquetball court inside the Center, as well as the four entrances to the Aztec Aquaplex.
Dedicated Micros—part of AD Group—received the Security Industry Award for transforming its NetVu Connected CCTV systems into an Emergency Messaging and Mass Notification System.
Safety on campus continues to be a concern for colleges and universities across the country. With legislative updates associated with the Clery Act passed last year, and violent events across the United States once again threatening campus safety, the need for security and safety awareness on campus has not diminished.

Security directors face large problems in large facilities. Officials at airports, seaports, industrial facilities and other large installations deal with a unique set of security problems. They also have a unique set of limitations. They must protect against a variety of security threats, many of which are unknown, and they must address these issues with limited manpower. They also are dealing with creative enemies who are always adapting and enhancing their sly methods.

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has enhanced security in three of its largest parking lots with the addition of video surveillance systems from ADT Security Services. The installation includes cameras, transmitted via a wireless mesh system, which monitor a 600-space remote parking lot about a quarter-mile from the university’s main campus.

The first day on the IFSEC floor has apparently been disappointing for some exhibitors. Since I’ve never been here before, I’m not sure how crowded it should look and the only thing I have to judge by is the traffic from ISC West. It didn’t seem all that crowded.

IndigoVision has developed a number of new integration modules for Bosch, MAXxess and Software House access control products, as part of its complete end-to-end IP video system. These modules allow true integration with third-party systems to provide a totally IP-based security solution, encompassing CCTV, access control and intruder alarms amonG others.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) has deployed the KeyWatcher Key Control System from Morse Watchmans to keep track of hundreds of keys used at its various bus garages, maintenance shops, an operations control center and a money-counting facility in and around Philadelphia.
RISCO Group and Milestone Systems recently announce a partnering agreement between the two companies, which integrates the globally leading Milestone open platform IP video software within RISCO Group’s overall security management system.
Technology in the Bergen County Jail in New Jersey is state-of-the-art, featuring computer control of all inmate housing areas, an integrated perimeter security system, a site-wide duress/panic alarm system and a computerized control center. However, the Bergen County courthouse and jail had some particular challenges that the coaxial (analog) cameras simply could not meet.
