Security Industry Association Names Wayne Dorris as SIA Cybersecurity Advisory Board Chair

The Security Industry Association (SIA) has appointed Wayne Dorris of Axis Communications to serve as the new chair of SIA’s Cybersecurity Advisory Board.

The SIA Cybersecurity Advisory Board (CAB) is a group of industry cybersecurity experts appointed by the SIA Board of Directors whose mission is to guide SIA members ahead of potential cybersecurity issues related to converged security measures. The advisory board provides prescriptive guidance and advocacy for new and existing cybersecurity strategies and solutions, which enables SIA to prepare its members for challenges related to wider adoption of the Internet of Things and the use of secure networked devices for security.

“I’m honored to accept the role of Cybersecurity Advisory Board chair,” said Dorris. “Cybersecurity is a complex and constantly evolving set of topics that impacts everyone. Together with CAB members, I’m looking forward to creating valuable content and providing insight on larger overarching themes, such as cyber/physical convergence, Zero Trust and compliance, legislation and regulations.”

Dorris serves as the cybersecurity program manager for Axis Communications covering the Americas, where he generates awareness and assists with cyber strategy and demand in Axis products. He also influences IP solutions for all segments of Axis’ business relative to cyber solutions through relationships and networking with all standards organizations, associations, partners and customers and interfaces with our corporate headquarters such that the end result is growth relative to Axis’ business goals. Dorris has 32 years of experience in the security industry, including a dozen years in regional and senior management positions dedicated to field implementation of architectural and engineering programs. Prior to joining Axis, he held the position of applications and field sales engineer for other security manufacturers and also served eight years as the technical security director for a major Fortune 150 company. Dorris is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and in addition to his service on the Cybersecurity Advisory Board, he serves on SIA’s Data Privacy Advisory Board and is actively involved with a number of other industry associations and volunteer groups.

“SIA is honored to have Wayne Dorris assume the role of Cybersecurity Advisory Board chair. Wayne’s cybersecurity and industry expertise will provide immense value to the CAB’s efforts to help SIA improve the cyber-resiliency of the physical security industry. The U.S. Cyber Trust Mark, the security risk of artificial intelligence applications and providing ransomware hardening guidance to K-12 schools are just some of the many areas of interest to SIA members, along with further engagement with the National Institute of Standards and Technology, that will benefit from CAB guidance,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “We thank Wayne and Axis for being such essential members of SIA and commend Wayne for his impactful leadership in this key area.”

The SIA Cybersecurity Advisory Board’s primary efforts and accomplishments include publishing helpful guides to product and system hardening, cybersecurity onboarding for employees, information security, challenges and recommendations for connected physical security products and more, along with developing engaging and informative events on cybersecurity topics and publishing insightful blogs and cybersecurity tips for SIA members and the industry at large.
