Condoleezza Rice, Ben Stein Keynote Speakers At ASIS

ASIS International recently announced that Condoleezza Rice, secretary of state and national security advisor in George W. Bush’s administration, and actor, author and pop culture icon Ben Stein, will be keynote speakers at the ASIS International 55th Annual Seminar and Exhibits Sept. 21-24 in Anaheim, Calif.

From January 2005 to January 2009, Condoleezza Rice served as the 66th secretary of state of the United States. Before serving as America’s chief diplomat, she was an assistant to President Bush for national security affairs from January 2001 to 2005. She is currently the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution and professor of political science at Stanford University.

Rice will share stories of her extraordinary experiences and a sweeping look at global affairs during her keynote address on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 8 a.m.

Ben Stein, one of the most recognizable faces in America today, has done just about everything during his career -- presidential speechwriter, best-selling author, lawyer, economist, college professor, syndicated columnist, game show host and more. Stein is also an actor. His part as the boring teacher in the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” was recently ranked as one of the 50 most famous scenes in American film. Stein will speak on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 8 a.m.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, political satirist and best-selling author P.J. O’Rourke will address attendees at the closing luncheon. Both Time magazine and the Wall Street Journal have called O’Rourke “the funniest writer in America.” Since 1982, O’Rourke has traveled as a foreign correspondent to more than 50 countries. He has written for such diverse publications as Automobile, House and Garden, Foreign Policy, The New York Times Book Review and Atlantic Monthly.

The first general session on the morning of Sept. 24 will feature a panel of chief security officers representing various industries, led by Steve Chupa, CPP, director of security at Johnson & Johnson. The panels will offer possible solutions to the question, “What keeps you up at night?”

The second general session will address ethical and compliance-related issues that are more frequently being addressed by today’s security professionals. Michael Josephson, one of the nation’s most respected ethicists and a consultant to major corporations and government officials, will lead a discussion on these topics and will explore the role of security professionals in meeting these challenges.
