3VR and Diebold Partner for Searchable ATM Video Security Solution

3VR Security Inc. has announced an enhanced integration with Diebold ATM platforms, making it easier for financial institutions to improve their security by linking ATM transactions to surveillance systems.

This partnership provides security personnel with unprecedented visibility into ATM activity, enabling them to immediately access surveillance footage based on transaction number, time stamp and many other vectors. With the integration, banks can instantly cross-reference ATM transaction data with security video footage while leveraging 3VR’s advanced analytics like facial surveillance and license plate recognition.

The partnership between 3VR and Diebold arms financial institutions with a powerful new solution to help in their crackdown on ATM and other types of financial fraud. ATM fraud has increased dramatically over the past few years with the development of a series of sophisticated methods including skimming, ghost ATMs, ram-raids, pin IDs, automated pin changes, SMS attacks and malware. A survey conducted by Bank Info Security found that in 2008, financial institutions lost an average of $744,321 annually, with some reporting as high as $12 million in losses to ATM fraud alone.

The solution provides an easy-to-install software plug-in, financial institutions can integrate video surveillance with ATM transactions with even greater ease and security to gain more accurate and actionable data faster than ever before.

The 3VR-Diebold integration features:

· Powerful Searching

o Conduct speedy and effective investigations by correlating transaction and video data, making it easy to find footage of a specific event by simply searching for a transaction number and other fields;

o Perform more targeted, customized searches with customized searching using multiple data fields or ranges; and

o Search through an extended archive of video data in order to identify patterns and repeat offenders with 3VR SmartStorage.

· Effortless and Secure Integration

o 3VR SmartRecorders obtain ATM transaction data with minimal changes to existing IT infrastructure and integrate with a wide range of ATMs.

Integration with the 3VR intelligent surveillance and search platform has been shown to shorten investigation times by 50-75 percent by dramatically accelerating the locating of video evidence, as well as significantly reducing costs for installation and maintenance of surveillance video recording.

To make this integration with Diebold possible, 3VR has introduced three distinct offerings:

1. The 3VR Diebold 91X Protocol Capture Plug-in: The 3VR SmartRecorder captures ATM data from ATMs that are running the Diebold 911/912 protocol by observing ATM-to-Host network traffic over an Ethernet network.

2. The 3VR Diebold XApCom Receiver Plug-in: ATMs with XApCom Plus are configured to send ATM data to the 3VR SmartRecorder over an Ethernet network.

3. The 3VR Serial/Ethernet Transaction Integration Device: The SETI device enables 3VR to capture ATM data by observing ATM-to-host traffic from virtually any ATM with a simple add-on component.

“We believe it should be easy for security personnel to immediately find the video footage they need,” said Al Shipp, CEO of 3VR. “The benefits to investigations in terms of time and accuracy are so important it’s the difference between catching the bad guy and not having any idea who he or she is. Our focus is on designing solutions and integrating them with other offerings so customers can deploy them easily and get real value from them right away.”

3VR integrates with virtually any teller platform or ATM.

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
