Video Insight Awards First Security Grant to Monroe Public Schools of Michigan

Video Insight – a developerVideo Insight Awards First Security Grant to Monroe Public Schools of Michigan of enterprise IP video surveillance software – is awarding the first of a year-long $250,000 School Security In-Kind Grant Program to Monroe Public Schools of Monroe, Michigan.

As the Video Insight School Security In-Kind Grant recipient, Monroe Public Schools will receive 48 Video Insight Video Management Software (VMS) licenses; 16 IP video surveillance cameras; 1 video encoder; 10 years of software upgrades; one year of a customer assurance program; and product training. Each grant award is valued at more than $20,000.

“We started this grant program in an effort to help schools and colleges that have limited or no video surveillance protection in place combat the continued violent acts and threats they face on a day-to-day basis,” said Video Insight Chief Executive Officer Robert Shaw. “We were completely overwhelmed at the positive response and the number of applications we received, and we would like to congratulate Monroe Public Schools.”

The Monroe Public School System is located just south of Detroit, Michigan, and has 15 schools and 6,800 students. Nearly half of the district’s campuses are designated Title 1 and 73 percent of the student population qualifies for the federal free lunch program.

Since the Sandy Hook tragedy, Monroe Public Schools has revamped their security policies, placing security guards at each school and researching how best to improve district wide security.

“Our research found that video surveillance is the backbone to almost all of the security measures schools and districts are making. The grant that Video Insight is offering would allow us to get a firm step in the right direction allowing us to begin implementing a better security system and policies to help ensure the safety of our students and faculty,” said Monroe Public Schools Technology Representative Peter Frailing.

Each month of 2014, Video Insight will award a school or college the equipment necessary to implement a video surveillance solution (software, hardware, and support valued at over $20,000 each). Grant winners are notified and announced the last week of each month.
